          Dream Emporium Dream Interpreter

Hello, allow me to introduce myself...

My name is Cyndi, although you'll see my nickname ZenCyn used throughout the site. I first became interested in dreams as a toddler, when my parents would catch me running through the house, screaming from what are known as "night terrors." These night terrors continued for several long decades, and a slumber party at a friend's house was always an adrenaline rush for the family. I can't begin to tell you how embarrassing it was to wake up from a scream-fest and see a frazzled-looking family standing around me, staring at me in open-mouthed horror. (My apologies to The Minceys)

These episodes continued into adulthood, and my husband eventually became so immune to my nocturnal blood-curdling screams that he would just reach over in bed, pat me on the shoulder, and sleepily mutter, "It's ok, Cyndi...'nother nightmare. Zzzzz." My Knight In Shining Armor needed his sleep!

The sleep paralysis coupled with night terrors started getting worse, until I couldn't hardly stand it anymore. Finally in desperation I started recording my dreams in a hand-written journal in an attempt to find a way out of these nightmares; and soon discovered the language of dream symbology. It was through interpreting my own dreams that I was able to unlock the mysteries behind the night terrors which were caused from a dysfunctional childhood, and now I no longer have them!

(pssssst! There's a likes & dislikes list after all this babblespeak, if you're interested!)

Many of my dreams are precognitive, and have changed my life by sending me on a rewarding spiritual search of finding inner peace, or at least a close imitation.

I developed a knack for interpreting dreams, and wanted to help teach others how to learn and apply the great insight which lies within each of us, via our dreams. I am currently gathering information and ideas together for a book about my experiences with dreams.

I believe that each person should ultimately evaluate their own dreams, after taking in suggestions of symbols or interpretations from various sources. Each individual is the best judge of his or her own dreams. I *always* tell people this when they email me about their dreams. Follow your own intuition and inner instinct.

I used to offer a free dream interpretation to anyone who emailed me, until it got too time-consuming for me to keep up with. I was suprised how many requests came in every day! Now I encourage people to learn how to interpret their own dreams (which was my main goal in making this page to begin with) and I also offer a chance for you to win a free dream interpretation in a Dream Contest, if you are interested.

My goal is to teach people how to do this themselves, which is a greater gift. Everyone has the ability to do this; it truly isn't hard once you learn how.

My personal belief system: I don't believe in being prejudiced against someone because of the color of their skin, their sexual orientation, their religious beliefs or being agnostic ( we are all on different paths in life, and those paths are at different levels; it is not up to us to judge others when we may have been where they are in previous lives, or in upcoming ones.)

Yes, I believe in reincarnation, because it is the only system of justice that makes any type of sense to me in life. How can one person be slender, beautiful, rich and totally blessed in every way in life; while the next person is poor, "ugly" by society's standards, and may have illness, physical or mental, that keeps them from being able to achieve their life's dreams and goals? Reincarnation is the only belief system that makes any sense to me, as well as karma and dharma. "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."; essentially.

Now, on to more fun stuff...I thought I'd add an area where I share my likes & dislikes, fav's & peeves. That's right, it's dissin' time! Let's see how much we have in common!

          My Quirks

Have you ever taken the Keirsey Personality Sorter/Test? I'm an ENFP/Champion. I was suprised that this really "fits" my personality, and the part about "...champions tend to heap coals of fire on themselves, berating themselves for the slightest self-conscious role-playing" is one reason why I am much more comfortable with strangers than I am with extended family. I almost have 2 personalities in this way; one for strangers where I'm an extravert, and one for family or large gatherings with people we know, where I am an introvert to the point of becoming a hermit, avoiding these gatherings like the plague, especially since I've become ill because I can't keep up and there's too much unpleasant explaining involved. Ugh! I'm almost an INFP, with a slight edge over that made me an ENFP.

          My List of Favorites

Here you'll find lists of favorites: Movies, T.V. shows, Books, etc. Some people might think a person who interprets dreams and is in contact with her spiritual nature might be a bit "out there," so I thought I'd put up a page showing my interests and quirks to narrow the perceived gap. Maybe we'll share a few interests! I included the lyrics to 2 songs that I think are pretty cool, because they are about dreams. I saw the videos on MTV or VH1, and they became 2 of my favorite songs instantly. I love quirky music, which started with Lene Lovich many moons ago.

As for movies, I was one of those people who went ga-ga over TITANIC. Love that movie! My favorite part is when they morph between the eyes of the young Rose into the old Rose. I found it very effective and moving. It reminds me of how fast life flies by, and how we should savor every precious moment as a gift.

Would you like to share tips on music, movies or a book that you like? Please feel free to drop me a line, so I can check it out! :)

Now, on with the Lists of Fav's:

          My Favorite Movies

LORD OF THE RINGS-THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING/2001 After resisting a big-screen tv for many years, this movie is what made me decide I *had* to have one! This wonderful "movie" (so much more than that; it is a life experience, in my opinion) is my current favorite. What a fantastic movie! I've seen it 13-1/3 times to date on the "big" screen; and the only other movie I've seen that many times was RHPS, and that was during my teenage angst years. The 1/3 occured when we were given the wrong movie times (see Pet Peeve list, below) and were way too early for the next showing, so we snuck in :D

LORD OF THE RINGS-THE TWO TOWERS/2002 Whoo-hoo, can't wait until it's time for Return of the King, although then I'll be sad there are no more LOTR movies to look forward to seeing. What a great trilogy Peter Jackson has given us Tolkien fans!

LORD OF THE RINGS-THE RETURN OF THE KING/2004 WOW!! This movie, ROTK, was more than I could have hoped for, and I know I'll be watching this movie trilogy many, many times. Definitely my favorite movie(s) of all time. What a great trilogy director Peter Jackson has given us Tolkien fans!

Which character do you most emulate?

Myself? Frodo. His character really "speaks" to me, perhaps because we both have a task we do NOT want to endure (in my case, life-long illness), and Elijah Wood's acting is so superb and heart-felt that I feel it in my very soul, and the tears flow freely, as corny as it may sound. When you go through a painful life lesson like decades of pain & illness, one certainly cries.

As Frodo wishes for the happy, simple & care-free days of his life as he used to know it; so do I, as the healthy conscientious hard-working young woman with many goals, and her whole life ahead of her without any limitations like I have now, with this damn illness. I was cut-down in my early 20's with meningo-encephalitis, which has left progressive degenerative on-going damage that worsens with each passing year. How I miss those days when I was well & had everything ahead of me; and yet, I know my life's journey is important in the lessons I am learning for my soul. However, like Frodo, I worry that my burden is negatively affecting the ones I love most in life, such as my husband and son...but like Sam, my dh insists on staying by my side, for which I am eternally grateful.

The character my dear husband Dennis most emulates?

I haven't asked him if he agrees yet, but he is "my Sam." He worries about me, cares for me, does everything he can to try to make my life better & happier, and always loves me. If there is a burden he can take off my back and carry himself, he'll do so in a heartbeat without even asking first. I am so very lucky to have him as my husband, and wouldn't trade him for anyone else in the world. "Hope remains as long as the Fellowship is True." Thank you for being my wonderful "Sam," sweetheart!

The character my son Jarrod most emulates?

I asked him this, and he said, "Aragorn; because you have high hopes for me to conquer high grade point averages and the International Bacchalaurete school, which has invited me to apply; and now I feel that pressure to perform and conquer. I don't want to let my parents or myself down and I want to live up to my full potential; yet I want to be a kid and enjoy life, too; but that part of my life is quickly becoming my past, now."

Wow, pretty eloquent, isn't he? Jarrod is 14 years of age, at this writing. He feels an affinity with Aragorn because that character has pressures on him to live up to his full potential and meet his destiny head-on, ready or not!

BTW, I encourage our son to choose a career that he is most happy with, that will make him want to get up each day and enjoy going to work; rather than dread going in and looking at his watch constantly. for quitting time. That is why I encourage him to do his personal best; no other reason matters.

So, which character most speaks to you? I would be interested in hearing from you on this subject, because I feel fiction speaks often of our waking lives tasks and goals that we need to learn & conquer.

          dreams, nightmares, dream interpretations

          Favorite Actor?

Robin Williams, as you probably already guessed by the number of movies he appears in, above.

Although I'm a big Tommy Lee Jones fan too...oh, Oh--and Harrison Ford of course...and
          Sean Connery.

New Favorites: Elijah Wood (as Frodo in
"Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring" & Sean Bean (Boromir) and
oh-oh-Viggo Mortensen as Aragorn and...Orlando Bloom and just about every actor in LOTR.

Special Addition: Sir Ian McKellen in his role as
Gandalf in Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. Why? Because the scene where Gandalf
faces a great fear (no spoiler, here) is straight out of my recurring nightmare of several decades.
Those of you who have seen the movie can now get an idea of how terrifying my recurring nightmare
was, because it was so very much like this scene from the movie, brilliantly acted by Sir Ian McKellen.
It was after I faced down my greatest fears in a series of recurring nightmares, that I was finally
able to overcome them ...and eventually started this webpage to help others suffering from
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder related sleep disorders. I think that deserves a special nod, don't you? :)

          Favorite Actress?

Linda Hamilton. Hmm...any others? I'll have to think on that.

ONE by U2 - my lifetime favorite! Great lyrics; very moving.

--I hope you'll go read these lyrics & see Taja's
music video, because this is a perfect example of how
each person in our dreams is actually not about the other
person at all, but a reflection on ourselves in some way.

DREAM by Forest For The Trees
          Lyrics & YouTube link HERE!

--I love this music video! The 3 back-up singers

Great video example of "I had a weird dream last night..."

I had a lucid dream so much like this music video,
where I flew to & visited beautiful places all over
the world. Awesome dream, If you wonder what it is like
to have a lucid dream and "fly"--then head on over to see
Janet Jackson in her 1995 music video, "Runaway."

MYSTERY SONG--this song has been haunting me ever since I was a kid...who sings it? What is the title?? I would hear it on the radio and wait for the DJ to give the name, but of course it was one of those times the DJ brainfarted and didn't share. This song tells the story of a teenage boy who goes to a dance and meets a girl...he walks her home, after putting his sweater around her shoulders...then after he walks away, he remembers his sweater and goes back to the house to knock on the door. The father answers and is upset, saying,

          "You're wrong, son--you weren't with my daughter.
How could you be so cruel; to come to me this way?
My daughter left this world on her birthday...
She died, a year ago today."

Then the guy walks away, confused, and as he passes by the local cemetery, he sees his sweater on a grave...this girl's grave.

I know, it's cheesier than gouda...but I can't get it out of my head until I complete this mystery. ARGHH! I think this song was from the 50's or early 60's, but nobody (even D.J.'s) has been able to come up with this title or singer's name for me. SO, needless to say, if you know it---Puleaaaasse email me! It's just one of those little nagging things in life, y'know?

          Update on the Mystery Song!!

Cyndi, I have found your mystery song. The name of your mystery song is "Laurie(Strange Things Happen)", written by Milton Addington, recorded by Dickey Lee. I'm not sure what year it was recorded. (1965) I hope you find this information to be of help to you. Take Care, Paula

THANK YOU, Paula!! Now maybe I can locate a copy of that song and ease the haunting lyric in my head once and for all. Many many thanks :) This one stumped a great many people!

Ok, so it sounded better when I was 8 years old...but here is the real audio link for those of you who are daring, curious souls: Laurie (Strange Things Happen) by Dickey Lee

My Most Hated Song In The Universe

          McArthur's Park
This song is vile! Anybody that upset over a cake left in the rain needs serious therapy. It also has horrifying "stay in your head" properties, making one need therapy themselves. Yes, I know the song was tongue-in-cheek and symbolic. I reserve the right to be bitchy about this song, since it won't get outta my head for days after hearing it!

          A Poem

You know you're quirky when the only poem your memory can retain is the following nonsensical poem:

Ladies and gentlemen, hobos and tramps,
I stand before you & sit behind you
to tell you something I know nothing about!
          Admission is free, you must pay at the door;
So pull up a chair and sit on the floor.
The show is over, but before you go,
let me tell you a story I don't really know :

One bright day, in the middle of the night
two dead boys got up to fight
          back to back; they faced each other;
drew their swords and shot each other.
A deaf policeman heard the noise
He came and shot those two dead boys.
If you don't believe this lie is true...
ask the blind man; he saw it too!

...at least little kids think you're pretty cool when you recite that poem :)

I've since found out that there are many variations of this poem. Here is one longer version:

The famous speaker who no one had heard of said:
Ladies and jellyspoons, hobos and tramps,
          cross-eyed mosquitos and bow-legged ants,
I stand before you & sit behind you
to tell you something I know nothing about.
Next Thursday, which is Good Friday,
          there's a Mother's Day meeting for fathers only;
wear your best clothes if you haven't any.
Please come if you can't; if you can, stay at home.
          Admission is free, pay at the door;
pull up a chair and sit on the floor.
It makes no difference where you sit,
the man in the gallery's sure to spit.
The show is over, but before you go,
let me tell you a story I don't really know.
One bright day in the middle of the night,
two dead boys got up to fight.
          (The blind man went to see fair play;
the mute man went to shout "hooray!")
Back to back they faced each other,
drew their swords and shot each other.
A deaf policeman heard the noise,
and came and killed the two dead boys.
          A paralysed donkey passing by
          kicked the blind man in the eye;
knocked him through a nine-inch wall,
into a dry ditch and drowned them all.
If you don't believe this lie is true,
ask the blind man; he saw it too,
through a knothole in a wooden brick wall.
And the man with no legs walked away.

Lord help me; I've recently latched back on to Harlequin Presents/Romances. Go figure! I haven't read these since I was a kid! Strange to suddenly feel drawn to .99cent sales on ebay for these old books...my current favorite Harlequin Presents author is Lynne Graham; if any of you have suggestions, I'm going crazy trying to find a good author. Help!

STRUGGLE FOR INTIMACY - A book of insight
          by Janet Geringer Wotitiz

-Before I read this book, I couldn't understand why I seemed to have such a horrendous time coping with being in a relationship. I was always waiting for the other shoe to drop, on constant guard for trouble that wasn't even there. I was a nervous wreck. This book helped me realize that the dysfunctional childhood I went through had taught me coping mechanisms that got me through childhood but were very ineffective now that I was an adult. Just realizing this was like suddenly seeing the forest for the trees, and was such a relief. No, you're not crazy...you have just never learned how to stop being on guard.

If this sounds like you, read this book and find some relief. It will help you understand why you feel so torn when you know you have a good thing going, and help you learn new ways to cope before you wreck the best thing that ever happened to you. Good luck!

(-The above is my review of this book @ amazon.com ) I highly recommend this book for anyone having fear of abandonment issues, which often comes through as dreams or nightmares where their husband/boyfriend/girlfriend is cheating on them. You don't have to be an ACOA to benefit from reading this wonderfully enlightening & helpful book!

          Pet Peeves

Prejudiced people. C'mon, educate yourselves! You owe it to yourself and your family not to pass on prejudice and hatred bred by ignorance. Fear breeds ignorance, so dive into the subject that you fear, and learn from those you would be prejudiced against. A Higher Power made all of us; who are we to judge what He has made?! I say that to the Bible Thumpers who think they are holier than thou. I always say, "The Devil himself can park his butt in a church pew every Sunday, but that don't make him a Christian!" I-cannot-stand-judgemental-"Christians." Hello?! Jesus didn't judge, and all that? Seriously, if one person sees him/herself in this pet peeve and tries to overcome their judgemental ways, the world will be such a better place, and their soul just might make it past the Pearly Gates. (I hear Saint Peter really hates judgemental types)

Have you ever noticed how the really inspired, amusing & adorable commercials are seen only once or twice, but the lousy ones you cannot stand to watch are shown for decades without relief?!

Automated telephone "operators." Remember when we used to complain about the bitchy operators we had to talk to years ago? I'll take that over a machine any day...the hours wasted waiting for the right option to punch in on the keypad is more than I can bear sometimes. They are making it harder & harder to get to a real human being, have you noticed?

CD Singles and VHS movies where the packaging opens on the *bottom*, so that when you hold the item upright, the CD or movie tape falls out & hits the hardest floor in your house. What moron invented this?! So you have to store it upside down, which unfortunately causes dust to settle into the opening. Brilliant. (---please note heavy sarcasm)

My husband's pet peeve: people who connect paper clips together into a long chain. This annoys him so much that it's amusing, so guess what I do when I'm in a mischievious mood?

"What do you want to do?" "I don't know, what do you want to do?" "Uhh, I don't know..." ARGHGHGHGH!! Just say it and let's get on with our lives!

One word: Spam. To make it even worse, some spammers figured out how to send viruses/worms with (blank) in the from line, so the emails cannot be blocked. Hey, if anyone knows a way around this dastardly plot, please clue me in? Thanks!

Pop-up ads when I'm surfing the net. Especially the ones that have those spy programs engaged that follow your activity. NOT COOL!

Good-time-only friends who desert you if you get sick or poor/whatever, & no longer can keep up their pace. Ouch! One day, karma will cheerfully bite them in the butt, and they'll know what it feels like.

People who live their entire lives in denial.

Bent fork tines. You sit down at a great restaurant, order your favorite meal; take a bite and-- yecchhh! Bent fork tines! *shudder*

People who honk the very milisecond the traffic light changes to green. If they're behind me, I make sure to slllloooowwwwlllyyy drive off, just to tick 'em off.

People who never write in their emails, and just send forwards. Every now & then, a
"Hi! How ya doin'?" would be nice.

Once-free websites now charging for their "services;" such as ecards or ezine/email sites. Awww, what a bummer! Doesn't it make you appreciate the sites that are still free? (ahem)

Has this happened to you? You check movie times on the net or via the theater's recorded phone message, only to arrive at the theater to find out that the time has been changed and you either *just* missed the movie, or you're 2 hours ahead of time after racing through a meal and rushing to the theater.

Deciding to do a Pet Peeves list, then getting mental block. *sigh*

          Pet Blessings!

Loved ones you can always count on to be there for you, no matter what. You guys rock!

Nature. On an otherwise sad day, it always helps me to nuture the backyard wildlife by giving them water & food, and watch them enjoy it. It brings me peace.

The ability to help others. What a rewarding gift this is!

Enjoying a great conversation with a life-long friend.

Enjoying a movie or outing with a friend or loved one, and creating happy memories.

Having the great opportunity of living in a free country!

Watching as the silver lining in the proverbial cloud shows itself :)

Simple pleasures such as reading a great book, or watching my son play in the yard.

Hearing from friendly visitors to my website :)
